San Antonio, TX - Veterans of over 50 years of military operations at Sembach Air Base, in Germany will be gathering in San Antonio October 7-11, 2004 for their annual reunion. This annual event is sponsored by the Sembach Air Base Military Veterans, a web-based nonprofit organization.

Local reunion chairman, Dominick Dina, himself a 30-year Air Force veteran, served at Sembach Air Base from 1970-77. "Being at Sembach was like being back home for me. Everyone was like a big family."

It is expected the 2004 reunion will be the largest held for this group of aging military veterans, some of whom were stationed at Sembach back in the 1950s. "San Antonio, for the vast majority of us, was the starting point for our military service" Dina said. "Coming back to where you started is always great."

San Antonio, long renown for a strong military heritage, is a favorite retirement location for many military personnel. Thousands were stationed at Sembach from the end of World War II to the early 1990s when US military operations ceased. That means San Antonio may be home to a very large number of those formerly stationed there.

The reunion will be based at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel downtown. Proposed events include tours of Lackland Air Force Base, the San Antonio Missions, the Institute of Texas Cultures, a bus trip to New Braunfels/Fredericksburg and a semi-formal dinner. Events are still being recommended for consideration.
